Nutmeg Yo' Face!

Who knew nutmeg was magical outside of cakes, cookies, and puddings? Have you tried it on your face?

Amazing.

As I'm determined to get my skin back in tip-top condition (asap), I am a busy scientist between my kitchen and bathroom. I'm testing DIY cleansers, toners, eye creams, and serums. Almost every day, I'm trying a new facial recipe or homemade natural makeup and loving it!

I'm also cleaning bathroom sinks and counters a lot more--not loving that.

So a nutmeg mask consists of nutmeg and milk. Being that I'm lactose intolerant and a plant-based foodie, I used original unsweetened almond milk.

"Why nutmeg?"

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Natural moisturizer
  • Natural exfoliator
  • Helps to decrease clogged pores
  • Helps to heal acne scars
  • Promotes brightened skin ("That glow THO!")

In a small glass bowl, I combined about a quarter teaspoon of nutmeg with about 2 teaspoons of almond milk. And yes, 'twas liquidy, which had me immediately thinking about cleanup.

Oh well.

I applied this 'hot mess' with a clean makeup brush, while making sure to get a heap of the seasoning (versus just the milk) onto my brush, before applying the nutmeg-milk mixture onto my face. Fortunately I had just enough to cover my neck as well.

I had every intention to leave this mask on for a good thirty minutes. But life stepped in and three hours later, I finally had the opportunity to remove the mask with a clean cloth. (Note: take the mask off in a timely manner.)

Afterwards, I toned. I moisturized. And I achieved the glow. My skin looked alive. Was my scarring gone, since I left the mask on for hours? (Wearing a mask for three hours would seem to equal six masks. A week of masks completed in three hours.) But no, blemishes remained despite 'one week of masks'.

Ugh.

Will I continue to use this mask? Absolutely, and once a week, because of how my skin glowed. While I don't expect my scarring to go away after one mask (or six ;-p), I do believe that ,over time, in my eating lots of fruits and vegetables, keeping my hands away from my face, and continually treating my skin with natural products, the scars will fade.

In the meantime, I'll just continue to glow.
